Local Fleet Manager
To manage, plan and organize all local processes relating to the transportation and delivery of stock, while ensuring cost-effective route scheduling considering the total supply chain cost.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

  To manage, plan and organize all local processes relating to the transportation and delivery of stock, while ensuring cost-effective route scheduling considering the total supply chain cost.  

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or equivalent.
  • 5 years’ fleet management and administration experience, at least 2 of which have been in a supervisory position.
  • Practical fleet maintenance experience an added advantage.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient in use of MS Office suite with emphasis on Excel.
  • Working knowledge of transport management systems.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage, report on and draw up local fleet budget.
  • Manage fleet repairs and maintenance, schedule vehicle services and all other mechanical services which may arise.
  • Measure vehicle utilisation and put corrective measures in place with rest of supply chain planning team.
  • Ensure Driver backdoor call procedure is consistently enforced, and issues are escalated as is necessary for effective and timeous resolution whilst truck is still at customer receiving bay.
  • Ensure that drivers come back with proof of delivery, backdoor calls are made in case of unforeseen challenges met at customer zone, and that loads are allocated to the right size truck (load fill capacity).
  • Manage and report on local fleet running expenses against budget (fuel consumption, tyres, service, repairs and maintenance)
  • Manage local stock distribution: ensuring that stock is delivered to our customers on time and on budget.
  • Handle warehouse petty cash.
  • Sourcing of competitive quotations, raising of purchase orders and signing off of all local fleet-related invoices.
  • Facilitate training for the team.
  • Daily tracking and reporting of all local vehicles on vehicle tracking software: TMS and Netstar)
  • Identify inefficiencies in the supply chain that impacts negatively on the primary transport process and cost.
  • Analyse effectiveness of the transport process and put corrective measures in place.
